We leave the city center and continue following the Ticino River. We first pass through the city's recreational area, then continue on the dam. To our right the river, to the left intensively used agricultural land for fruit and vegetable cultivation. We then briefly pass through a nature reserve that will be expanded in the coming years. At Cadenazzo, the ascent to the Ceneri Pass begins. This path is also partially marked as Via del Ceneri and provides many information boards that give insight into the past and development of this pass. ! Attention: follow our app. ! After the pass height we go down to Rivera, which invites us to recharge with a large splash and SPA.
The «Via Francisca» is also known as the «Road of the Emperors». It leads from Konstanz via Lukmanier to Pavia, where it meets the Via Francigena.
The stages in this documentation are suggestions that every pilgrim can adjust to their wishes. However, the technical data always assume that these stages are completed in one day each.
!! Attention !! Wrongly placed trail markings here as well. Follow the route described here and shown on the app. The signposted variant is 98% on asphalt and through residential areas without much historical value. You decide?
