Looking back at Tarjan

When we leave the elongated village, we enter the Gerecse Mountains. First, the path goes uphill to the summit, where we can rest by the ruins of a medieval church before descending again. From here we can go in two directions:

1. Towards Vértesszőlős: this path runs along the area where human bones (skulls) were found, approximately 350,000 years old. From here, it follows along the Deritő and Öreg lakes to the center of Tata.

2. This leads from the round church towards Bai, down through a narrow, densely overgrown forest path along the Calvary of Bai. Past the Catholic church to the Tata Cseke lakes and into the city center of Tata. Here there are many sights, restaurants, and accommodation options.

The Way of St. James in Hungary from Budapest to Wolfsthal runs continuously on the western or southern side of the Danube. Wolfsthal lies slightly southwest of Bratislava, making the continuation of the path westwards from Wolfsthal also a route for pilgrims coming from Slovakia.
