Würzburg - orientation board in front of the Schottenanger Church

The Franconian-Swabian Way of St. James begins in Würzburg (176 m) at the church dedicated in 1138 to our apostle James the Greater, today Don Bosco Church, formerly Schottenkirche, because it was founded by Scottish monks. Inside the church, we can press the first stamp into our pilgrim passport in a corner. In front of the church is a board where we can once again orient ourselves for our pilgrimage to Ulm. We go downhill and cross the river on the "Old Main Bridge". Along the riverside path, we head upstream. Via Heidingsfeld, Randersacker, Eibelstadt, Sommerhausen and Kleinochsenfurt, we arrive after 21 km in Ochsenfurt.

To bypass the market town Sommerhausen, there is historically an alternative route through the vineyards outside the town. Those who do not know Sommerhausen should forgo the bypass, enjoy the picturesque wine town on the banks of the Main, and be aware of the Torturm Theatre founded by Luigi Malipierio, the smallest theatre in the world.

The Franconian-Swabian Way of St. James is the continuation of the Vacha-Fulda-Würzburg Way of St. James heading south. It leads from Würzburg via Rothenburg ob der Tauber to the cathedral in Ulm.
