Pilgrimage - a continuous up and down
This first section on the "Way of St. James Marburg-Trier-Vézelay" can be divided into two to three daily stages.
We say goodbye to the university town of Marburg and its characteristic silhouette over the Lahn valley, a silhouette composed by the Landgrave Castle and the Elisabeth Church.
The path leads downstream along the Lahn, but not along the densely populated banks, rather mostly over the heights on the right side of the valley. Only shortly before Wetzlar will we reach the Lahn again and then follow it to Wetzlar. On this section, the Gleiberg Castle impresses us, not only the castle itself but also the view in almost all directions.
We end this section in Wetzlar at the remarkable Wetzlar Cathedral.
We have deliberately not structured this documentation according to daily stages, but according to sections, leaving the division of stages to the planned aims and ambitions of the pilgrims as well as the spontaneous influences of weather and health.

"The Way of St. James from Marburg to Vézelay" leads from the Hessian university town of Marburg to Vézelay in France, the start of one of the 4 main routes of the French Way of St. James network.
