At the Rabiusa

At the Rabiusa

The path leads along the Plessur and the Chur-Arosa railway line towards Lenzerheide. We hike through villages like Passugg (mineral water source and hotel management school), past Malix - on a hill south of the village, the Strassberg castle was built at the end of the 12th century, later passing to the barons of Vaz and forming the center of a small lordship. The reformed church dates back to a medieval foundation under the patronage of Gallus.

The origin of the settlement Churwalden was the monastery. The first church of the then Premonstratensian monastery was near the bridge over the Rabiusa river. In the first half of the 13th century it was rebuilt at the present location above a pre-Romanesque predecessor and dedicated to St. Michael.

In the 15th and 16th centuries, ore was mined at the Parpaner Rothorn. Until the late 19th century, Lenzerheide was primarily a Maiensäss (alpine pasture) of the regional farmers. Today Lenzerheide is mainly known as a summer and winter tourism resort.

Anmerkungen

Today's stage leads properly into the mountains for the first time. From Chur we follow the Via Sett, No. 64, to the national border with Italy.

Tipp des Autors

In Parpan, a visit to the Bündnerfleisch manufacturer Brügger is worthwhile, offering excellent Bündnerfleisch - perfect for the picnic.

Orte entlang des Weges

From Chur there is a signage that we can follow to Castasegna: Via Sett. It is marked with a light green sticker with No. 64.

Passugg. The springs in the Rabiosa gorge were first mentioned in 1562 and rediscovered in the 19th century. Since 1951, mineral water has been bottled and distributed at today's location.

From Passugg at around 600 m above sea level, we climb up to over 1400 m above sea level, so quite a bit of "work." The reward is found in the wonderful mountain world.

At the ruin of Strassberg castle, there is a cozy, well-equipped picnic area for a rest break.

Parpan. Although Lenzerheide was often used as part of the transit route from Chur to northern Italy since Roman times, permanent settlement only occurred in the 13th century under the influence of the Churwalden monastery. The evangelical reformed church was built in 1489 under the patronage of St. Anna.

Parpan as well as Churwalden are well-known ski resorts.

Lenzerheide is situated at around 1475 m above sea level. Cable cars carry guests left and right up to the highest peaks.
