Roman theater in Augusta Raurica
At the entrance to the Basel agglomeration, we pass by Schweizerhalle, a complex of chemical and pharmaceutical factories, but this does not disturb us much along the Rhine. Next, we enter the Birsfelder Hard, a large forest area used for drinking water extraction from groundwater. Then we follow the Birs to Birsfelden in the canton of Baselland. After crossing the Birs, we are in the canton of Basel-Stadt, where in the St. Alban area we still find remains of the old city fortifications. Past the Basel Minster, our path finally leads to the Middle Bridge, the district on the left bank of the Rhine is called "Schifflände." Here we are practically in the center of Basel, and this is also where the path coming from Freiburg im Breisgau ends.

When you are in Basel, you will surely know how your journey should continue. If you want to pilgrimage to Rome, we will gladly guide you continuously via Lausanne to there; from Lausanne, even in English, French, or Italian if you want. If you want to pilgrimage to Santiago, you have the choice between Switzerland and the French Burgundy. The route through Switzerland is identical to the route to Rome up to Lausanne, and from there we can also guide you continuously to Santiago. If you want to hike through Burgundy, we can also guide you continuously to Santiago.
The pilgrimage route from Konstanz/Kreuzlingen along the Rhine to Basel is called the "Hochrhein-Weg" here. A whole series of pilgrimage routes from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg join this path.
