Silenen, Meierturm, Nothelferkapelle
In Amsteg, the Ticino route meets the Grisons Way of St. James (No. 43), which comes from Sedrun on the challenging stage via Mittelplatten - Etzlihütte - Bristen (Maderanertal) - to Amsteg. From Amsteg, the route follows the left bank of the Reuss until just before Erstfeld. It is more exciting to stay on the right bank at the beginning and pass the Zwing Uri castle ruins (with the Federal Council bunker decommissioned in 2000 underneath) to the Meierturm castle ruins (12th century) and the nearby Chapel of the Holy Helpers with its interior paintings (first church from 1081, rebuilt in 1666 after a fire), then continue via Silenen - Dägerlohn to Erstfeld. Shortly before Erstfeld, the paths meet again at the Reuss. At Erstfeld station, you pass an old turntable. After Erstfeld, the route follows the left bank of the Reuss through the Engel Tunnel before Attinghausen. Many small angel figures line the path. At Attinghausen, it is worth looking back where the mountain Bristen rises steeply and powerfully from the valley to the sky on the horizon. Then the route passes through Grossried at Seedorf. At the height of A Pro Castle, you head towards the castle. Shortly afterward, you meet the main road at the church with the A Pro bus stop, next to it the Urner Mineral Museum with beautiful local crystals.
Anmerkungen
The route leads through the deeply incised Urnerland. The Gotthard car and railway lines are constant companions. (Gotthard North Ramp route)
Tipp des Autors
Instead of going to Seedorf, go through the Reuss delta to Flüelen. After the train station comes the boat station. Take the boat to Treib, Beckenried, or Lucerne and continue the Way of St. James from there.
