Linthbord Chapel near Tuggen

Grynau Castle
Today's Linth canal connects Lake Walensee and Lake Zurich.
In Schmerikon, we climb up over the Goldberg to the Rickenpass and to Wattwil. Shortly before Wattwil, we pass the 13th century Iberg castle and the former Benedictine nunnery, today "Fazenda da Esperança", a residential community for young people in difficult situations.
In the 19th century and early 20th century, Wattwil was an important center of the textile industry. The textile technical school is still an internationally recognized competence center of the Swiss textile industry today.
The Jakobsweg No. 4 leads us over the Rickenpass to Wattwil. We follow this marking until the Wattwil train station.
Alternatively recommended stage 8a from Rapperswil to Wattwil.
We can keep the route description simple: follow the hiking trail signs with the light green sticker (without dark blue border). We are on the Jakobsweg all day.
On the way, we go underneath the motorway before crossing the Linth canal in Grynau and follow it westwards.
After the train station in Schmerikon, we leave the lake, cross the tracks, turn briefly left, and then immediately right upwards towards the church.
Up the Goldberg and on to Neuhaus.
Now we are on the same route as those who chose the path via Rapperswil.
We reach Wattwil via the Rickenpass.
