St-Maurice train station
At the entrance to Martigny, we walk past the “Château de Bâtiaz,” which shapes the town’s image, and then cross the Rhône tributary “La Dranse,” which will be our companion on the connecting stage.
The “Via Francigena” is one of the 3 Christian pilgrimage routes of the Middle Ages, whose main axis runs from Canterbury in England to Rome. This documentation initially covers the section from Pontarlier to Rome.
For the treasures in St. Maurice, we also refer to the stage text of "Rhine-Reuss-Rhône route: Martigny - St. Maurice"
