Murten: Castle

Pasture in front of Chandossel
On this stage, we avoid the "major" traffic routes in the plains and retreat into the rural hills to the south of them. While we repeatedly encounter medieval witnesses on this pilgrimage, our day's destination has even more to offer. Avenches (Latin Aventicum) is a former Roman stronghold, and the Roman theater and amphitheater still exist today as quite well-preserved witnesses from the time in which the Apostle James was active.
The Three Lakes Route connects the «Regio Basiliensis» with the Romandie, where it merges into the «Romandie Route» near Payerne, which continues via Geneva to France.
The stages in this documentation are suggestions that each pilgrim can adapt to their wishes. However, the technical data always assumes that these stages are completed in one day each.
