    Müstair: San Gian Monastery

    Müstair: San Gian Monastery

    This stage leads from the monastery San Gian (Romansh Son Jon) in Müstair mostly off the main road up the Münstertal (Val Müstair) to Tschierv, where we leave the valley floor and walk northeast up the slope to the small stage location Lü. The village is situated on a sunny terrace high above the Münstertal and is the highest independent political community in Switzerland. The villagescape is shaped by a noteworthy late medieval Protestant little church.

    Anmerkungen

    The pilgrimage route Via Son Giachen leads from South Tyrol through the Val Müstair in the canton of Graubünden towards Central Switzerland or Valais. The partly alpine pilgrimage route is only continuously passable in warm seasons.

    In Graubünden, Romansh is also spoken, the 4th national language of Switzerland. Hence the route name "Son Giachen".
