Rotberg Castle: now a hostel
On this stage, we do not pass through any villages, only touching the place Metzerlen. From there, the path goes through a forest up to the «Metzerlerchrüz», which refers to both the local stone cross and the wayside cross. From here, we go westwards along the height of the Chall, a well-developed and popular forest path that moves us forward quickly. For a change, we cross the Chall Pass, which connects the places on the right-hand side near the French border with the Laufental or Birstal valleys. Then we continue quickly in the same direction, taking time to listen to the birds.

Metzerlen
At the end of the Chall Heights Path, we cross a pasture into a small valley with a barely visible footpath until we reach a forest path that leads us down towards Kleinlützel in the Lützel valley. After a few detours, we finally pass a small chapel, from where we walk steeply down through the forest on a Way of the Cross with its stations to Kleinlützel.
The Three Lakes Route connects the «Regio Basiliensis» with the Romandie region, where it merges near Payerne with the «Romandie Route», which continues via Geneva to France.
The stages in this documentation are suggestions that each pilgrim can adjust according to their wishes. However, the technical data always assumes that these stages would be completed in one day each.
