    The section on the main route between Martigny-Bourg and Sembrancher is technically demanding as described and also critical due to avalanches and landslides. AIVF therefore explicitly recommends this safer variant from Martigny-Croix station via Chemin-Dessus and Vens to Sembrancher. For the steep ascent, we are rewarded with a unique panorama over the Rhône valley and also arrive safely in Sembrancher.

    Anmerkungen

    The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 Christian pilgrimage routes of the Middle Ages, whose main axis leads from Canterbury in England to Rome. This documentation initially covers the section from Pontarlier to Rome.
